Trump administration has ‘no coherent objective’ in Iran war: Former US colonel

Former US Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, who served as Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell, told Al Jazeera that the US-Israeli strategy in Iran is “very much” in danger of unravelling.
He argued that while Iran “needs to not lose to win,” Israel and the US require a “spectacular victory” that they will not achieve.
Wilkerson criticised Trump’s administration for lacking a coherent objective, saying he has heard “nothing from my military, nothing from the State Department, and certainly nothing from the White House” that resembles an achievable goal.
He expressed deep concern that Prime Minister Netanyahu may resort to using nuclear weapons, interpreting recent comments as indicating “they cannot imagine what I’m going to do to them.” Wilkerson warned that Iran is vast—”as big as Western Europe”—and that a nuclear strike would require multiple weapons, breaking the nuclear taboo with catastrophic consequences.
He also dismissed the prospect of a ground invasion as extremely dangerous, noting that US forces are not positioned for such an operation.
Concluding, Wilkerson said America’s position in the Middle East is “gone,” predicting regional countries will look to Russia and China as “new big daddies” after being repeatedly attacked under US security guarantees.
