Most of the shrimp Americans consume comes from India. But in August 2025, the Trump administration announced 50% tariffs on the country. Shrimp farmers in Gujarat, who’d taken US demand and turned poor towns into valuable shrimp hubs, had to pivot.
In the US, Louisiana shrimpers applauded the tariffs but were split on whether they’d gone as far as they’d hoped. Now the Supreme Court has struck down Trump’s ’emergency tariffs’ but the President says he will still pursue them with an executive order.
