Drone strike hits Al-Rasheed hotel in Baghdad’s Green Zone near US embassy, no casualties reported

Explosions were heard near the US Embassy in Baghdad after a drone struck the Al Rasheed (Royal Tulip) Hotel inside the heavily fortified Green Zone.
Security sources say the drone hit the top two floors of the hotel, which hosts foreign diplomatic missions and international workers.
The attack caused material damage but no casualties, according to Iraq’s interior ministry.
Security forces sealed off the area as roads around the Green Zone were closed.
During the broadcast, the US Embassy’s C-RAM air defence system intercepted another drone nearby.
The incident follows recent US strikes on Popular Mobilisation Forces positions near the Al Qa’im crossing, reportedly killing seven fighters.
Iran-aligned armed groups in Iraq have vowed retaliation against US and Israeli targets amid the wider war involving Iran.

Al Jazeera’s Mahmoud Abdelwahed reports from Baghdad, Iraq.
