The war between the US, Israel and Iran has disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, halting nearly all jet fuel deliveries to Africa from Middle Eastern refineries.
About 70 percent of the continent’s aviation fuel imports flow through that waterway.
Airlines across Africa are now facing scarce supply and volatile costs, with fuel typically accounting for 30 to 45 percent of operating expenses—well above the global average.
Some carriers have introduced temporary surcharges, whilst South African motorists are bracing for steep petrol and diesel price rises from April.
