Donald Trump says the United States has “defeated” Iran militarily, but is now calling on global powers to help secure the critical Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking to reporters, Trump claimed Iran’s military capabilities—including its navy, air force, and air defenses—have been destroyed. However, he emphasized that maintaining security in the Strait of Hormuz requires international cooperation.
Trump specifically called on NATO, China, and Japan to step in, arguing that these countries depend heavily on the vital shipping route for energy supplies.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important oil transit chokepoints, carrying a significant portion of global energy shipments. Any disruption could have major economic and geopolitical consequences.
This comes amid rising tensions in the Middle East following the ongoing conflict, with concerns growing over global trade, energy security, and the risk of further escalation.
